Elton John In 2014: The British piano man and philanthropist, who founded the Elton John AIDS Foundation, designed a special Build-a-Bear in October to benefit Operation Bobbi Bear, which helps with the health and well-being of sexually abused and victimized children in the province of Kwa-Zulu Natal in South Africa. Angelina Jolie 2014: The Oscar-winning actress and co-founder of the Jolie-Pitt Foundation with husband Brad Pitt, is well-known for her charitable works. She teamed up with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), for which she is a special envoy, in a global campaign in November to end the legal issue of statelessness around the world. Brad Pitt In 2014: The Oscar-winning producer, actor and Jolie's better half is the founder of the organization Make It Right. With Make It Right, which builds houses in the wake of natural disasters, Pitt is planning on building new houses for the Sioux and Assiniboine American Indian tribes of Fort Peck this year. The houses will be sustainable and environmentally friendly. Bono In 2014: U2 frontman Bono, along with the rest of U2, Kanye West, Coldplay's Chris Martin and Bruce Springsteen, performed a surprise concert in Times Square earlier this month to benefit (RED), which Bono co-founded and which helps fight AIDS around the world. Fox The actor, who suffers from Parkinson's disease, became the first WebMD Health Hero Hall of Fame winner last month for the tremendous work he has accomplished through his foundation in finding a cure for the disease. Susan Sarandon The Oscar-winning actress, along with actress Daryl Hannah and Robert Kennedy Jr., wrote an open letter in November to British citizens warning them of the dangers of growing GM crops. The letter was published in the Times newspaper in London and was promoted through a digital billboard in London's Waterloo subway station. George Clooney The Oscar-winning actor and producer, along with John Pendergast of the ENOUGH Project, co-authored an op-ed article for VICE News in June calling on the United States to care about Sudan, which has experienced situations with terrorism, famine, human rights and peace in recent years. Paul McCartney The former Beatle and music icon, who is a vegetarian, plans on sending PETA to the moon through digital time capsules that are going to be sent to the moon by British scientists in 2025. In his "memory box" for the moon, McCartney will include "Glass Walls," a groundbreaking documentary by PETA that he narrated about the meat industry. Willie Nelson The legendary country singer donated a signed acoustic guitar to Reverb, a program that provides greening music tours and conducts grass-roots outreach and education to people from all over the world. Whoopi Goldberg The EGOT-winning actress and comedian joined fellow comedians Bob Saget and George Lopez by participating in Cool Comedy — Hot Cuisine this month at legendary New York City comedy club Caroline's. The gala helped raise money for the Scleroderma Research Foundation (SRF), which helps find improved therapies and a cure for people living with scleroderma. Tom Hanks In October, the double-Oscar winner donated his Remington Rand vintage typewriter to an online sweepstakes hosted by online marketplace IfOnly. The proceeds benefitted Lifeline Energy, an organization that provides education and information access to communities in sub-Saharan Africa. Hanks has been serving as the American ambassador of Lifeline Energy since 2003. Madonna The "Queen of Pop," who founded Raising Malawi and is a patron of Children of Peace, donated to three community groups in her hometown of Detroit in July. The superstar donated to the Downtown Youth Boxing Gym, the Detroit Achievement Academy and the Empowerment Plan. Betty White The lovable actress, animal lover and honorary president of the Morris Animal Foundation, participated in the Everyone Matters campaign "I Am!" in February, in which participants from all over the world uploaded selfies on social media to show how proud they are of their personality traits and their identities. White was joined by other celebrities, including Hugh Jackman, Natalie Portman and Christina Aguilera. Morgan Freeman The Oscar-winning actor with the powerful voice and founder of Plan!t Now starred in a movie called "Wish Wizard," which was made in connection with the Make-a-Wish Foundation. The movie gave four lucky kids the movie-making experience of a lifetime with one of the kids, Matthew, acting as the director of the movie. Yes, he got to direct Morgan Freeman! Oprah Winfrey The mega star and charitable former talk show host has not one but multiple charities that she has founded, including the Oprah Winfrey Operating Foundation. Winfrey joined the rest of the world and participated in the Ice Bucket Challenge this past summer in support of the ALS Association. Ellen DeGeneres The popular talk show host led a global push back in May to end cruel experiments that were planned on dogs in Taiwan. The Taiwanese government planned on infecting unvaccinated beagle puppies with rabies. Keith Urban Like his fellow Grammy-winner Willie Nelson, Australian country star Urban is both creative and charitable. Last month, Urban designed a special holiday ornament that is on sale right now through St Jude's online gift shop. All of the profits will benefit St. Jude's Children Research Hospital. Matt Damon The actor and Oscar-winning screenwriter is the founder of H20 Africa and one of the founders of Water.org and Not On Our Watch, the latter of which he founded with friends Brad Pitt, George Clooney, Don Cheadle and Jerry Weintraub. Last month, Damon, along with Ben Affleck, Will Ferrell, Bono and other celebrities, appeared in a video made by the ONE Campaign to promote the fight against Ebola in West Africa. Katie Couric The award-winning journalist and talk show host, who co-founded Stand Up to Cancer (SU2C), personally reached out to viewers through phone, Facebook, Instagram and other social media networks during the star-studded Stand Up to Cancer telecast in September. Along with Couric, many celebrities appeared and helped promote cancer research, including Steve Carell, Jennifer Aniston, Ben Stiller and Ariana Grande.
