Essential Albums To Add To Your Record Collection

We came up with a list of our favorite records in our vinyl record collections. Here are our go-to choices: Rumours by Fleetwood Mac It's a good album to jam to and there's a Fleetwood Mac song for every occasion. Got a new job? Fleetwood Mac. Just ended a relationship? Fleetwood Mac. Road trip with your friends? Fleetwood Mac. C'est Si Bon by Louis Armstrong I have a Louis Armstrong album that makes me feel amazing. I actually kept the album to myself for a long time because it was so special to me. When I finally played it for someone, it was for my girlfriend. During 'La Vie en Rose' she asked me to dance for the first time (it's a rare occurrence!). That record will make me smile on the worst of days. Is This It by The Strokes I heard this album for the first time in 2001. I immediately fell in love with Julian Casablanca's monotone voice. Our favorite track here at Doyouremember has to be "Hard to Explain." This is a true iconic rock and roll album. Very reminiscent of the 1980s post-punk takeover (Joy Division, Bauhaus). Hotel California by the Eagles One of the only records I have where I love every single song. Such a classic album! Dark Side of the Moon by Pink Floyd I don't care if you have 500+ records. A Charlie Brown Christmas by Vince Guaraldi Trio Even though I only listen to it for one month out of the entire year, it always has that nostalgic, magical, Christmas-y feel to it. Prince by Prince Prince's self-titled album is so perfect. Definitely a must-have. Golden Hits by the Four Seasons 'Sherry' and 'Big Girls Don't Cry' always bring a smile to my face. American Pie by Don McLean My favorite vinyl (and one of my all time favorite albums) is Don McLean's American Pie. We've all heard that one song of his and can agree that he's an incredible lyricist. So check out the rest of the album you won't regret it. Parachutes by Coldplay Coldplay's first full-length album that came out in 2000 is one of my favorite albums of all time. It's very chill and relaxing, and good to fall asleep to. The Sound of Music Soundtrack by various artists It was my grandmother's favorite movie before she passed away and every year during Christmas my dad and I watch the movie together. So having the soundtrack on vinyl is a must for my collection. I'm Wide Awake, It's Morning by Bright Eyes I'm a huge Bright Eyes fan and this is undoubtedly their best album. Conor Oberst is an incredible lyricist. I honestly believe he is truly the Cat Stevens of the 2000's. His other bands Desperacidos, Monsters of Folk and his solo stuff are all great but this is the quintessential Oberst album everyone must own. Grace by Jeff Buckley If you want to hear one of the most hauntingly beautiful voices and music ever recorded, Jeff Buckley's Grace is for you. He died tragically young, but not before releasing this masterpiece. His rendition of 'Hallelujah' is the best you'll ever hear. 'Lover, You Should Have Come Over' will have you crying. This album is utterly magnificent. Loaded by The Velvet Underground Lou Reed's creation in its best formation (in my opinion.) The Long Island kid definitely leaves a permanent tone to his music on this record. Born to Run by Bruce Springsteen Pretty much any Bruce Springsteen album. I love The River and Born to Run the most. My father was not such a fan—he said that 'that boy writes great songs but he cannot sing!' Dads, what do they know? Abbey Road by The Beatles You need at least one Beatle record. No matter how extensive my collection gets, I always go back to the perfection that is Abbey Road. The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust by David Bowie The other day I got a limited edition 40th edition of The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust on gold vinyl, and it's an immediate favorite. The key is to start collecting your favorite albums first and then venture into things you haven't heard yet. The Game by Queen I absolutely LOVE Queen and this is my first Queen vinyl record. It has some of my favorite songs like 'Save Me' and 'Another One Bites the Dust.' I think it's one of Queens best albums and among my favorite records. The 50 Greatest Hits by Elvis Presley I have a 'Greatest Hits of Elvis Presley' album which is extra special because it's PINK and it used to belong to my mom. I Care Because You Do by Aphex Twin Awesome record with great tunes, especially if you like electronica. But what makes it essential is a terrifying cover that is equally hilarious and practical for things like scaring your family at night! Chitty Chitty Bang Bang Soundtrack by various artists Everyone loves hearing 'Hey, you! Chitty Chitty Bang Bang!' It just brightens up the day! That song and more make up this classic musical film's soundtrack. Thriller by Michael Jackson The late Moonwalker's 1979 record has hit after hit, including the title track. Dirty Dancing Soundtrack by various artists. One of my best purchases. This soundtrack always has me 'having the time of my life.' Midnight Marauders by A Tribe Called Quest Revolutionary hip hop all-stars and a great starter album if you want to get into hip hop. Legendary. The Concert in Central Park by Simon and Garfunkel Being able to hear one of my favorite groups as it would've sounded had I been there is amazing, especially on vinyl. Let it Bleed by The Rolling Stones. This album will help you to remember* the sixties whether you were there or not. The play list includes: Midnight Rambler and You Can't Always Get What You Want, two of my favorites. All of the tracks are memorable. This is great Stones, if not the best. It is well worth the price of admission. Tapestry by Carole King This "beautiful" album is definitely a must have. The American Graffiti Soundtrackby Various Artists It's a quintessential collection of music from the 1950s and I listen to it all the time. It goes with any mood. Madonna by Madonna It's full of good bops like 'Holiday' and 'Borderline.' And the album cover is nothing short of iconic. Did we miss any? Tell us in the comments section below!
