Chances are while your children are asking Father Christmas for the latest hi-tech computer games and toys, the Christmas list you wrote back in the 1980s was very different. Our toys may not have been as complex but they were definitely much better. Some were so awesome that they’ve made a return back onto toy shop shelves this year. Here is what we were hoping we would find in our stockings on Christmas morning. 1. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Figures Why you totally wanted this: They were the most totally tubular toy line of the '80s and EVERY kid was obsessed with them and the accompanying TV series. 2. Makit & Bakit Oven Why you totally wanted this: Because it allowed you to make oh-so-pretty and delicate-looking plastic jewelry and trinkets that you imagined would make all your friends jealous whenever you wore them. 3. Big Wheel Why you totally wanted this: So you could race along with the other kids in the neighborhood. Plus they looked pretty cool. 4. View-Master Why you totally wanted this: Somehow you always managed to lose a pair of these throughout the year — usually left behind at your grandma's or on some random road-trip location — so asking for another one at Christmas was a necessity. 5. Peaches 'n Cream Barbie Why you wanted this: Sure, there were tons of other Barbies produced in the '80s, but none of them hold a candle to Peaches 'n Cream. She was not only pretty and glamorous but smelled so heavenly. 6. Snoopy Sno-Cones Machine Why you totally wanted this: You imagined that having one of these bad boys would allow you to whip up a giant-size slushy anytime you felt like it. 7. Monchhichi Dolls Why you totally wanted this: Yes, they were really cute as hell, but what really sold you was the addictive jingle in the commercial. 8. He-Man and She-Ra Action Figures Why you totally wanted this: 'Cause these toy lines were the shit! You could have some pretty epic battles thanks to all the different figures, weapons, and playsets, the line made. 9. Madballs Why you totally wanted this: They were gross and disgusting-looking, AND they were totally meant for throwing — though it was REALLY not pleasant to get hit by one of these. 10. Smurf Figures Why you totally wanted this: There were an endless amount of figures to collect! Plus, they were miniature, which meant you could slip a few in your pocket to play with when you were out and about. 11. Lite-Brite Why you totally wanted this: How could you not want it?! You had the commercial's jingle (which was played nonstop) stuck in your head. "Lite-Brite, Lite-Brite, turn on the magic of colored lights." 12. Teddy Ruxpin Why you totally wanted this: Five words: It was a talking bear! Seriously, you probably thought it would magically come to life one day — which would've been completely freaky, TBH. 13. PlayTentss Why you totally wanted it: 'Cause it was your own badass fort that you could easily put together, plus you could play with it indoors to, whenever the weather was bad outside. 14. Fisher-Price Cassette Tape Player Why you totally wanted this: Aside from the fact that you could play your favorite tapes, you could also record yourself with this and play it back! 15. Garfield Stuffed Animals Why you totally wanted this: It's easy to forget, but Garfield was actually really cool in the '80s. Not only did he have his comic, but he also had a series of specials and his own Saturday morning cartoon, Garfield & Friends. Plus, you probably saw the Garfield stuffed animal suction cup window cling hanging inside someone's car anytime you went anywhere. 16. Casey the Talking Robot Why you totally wanted this: He was appealing since you knew it was the closest you were ever going to get to having a real robot. 17. Care Bears Why you totally wanted this: Care Bears were one of those toys that it seemed you just NEEDED to have as part of your stuffed animal collection, whether you were a fan of the series or not. 18. Cabbage Patch Kids Dolls Why you totally wanted this: These dolls were the ULTIMATE ’80s toy and every kid wanted one. Plus, you could frame the birth certificate and send out announcements. 19. Popples Why you totally wanted this: Because there was something appealing about turning these guys into their ball shape. ALSO, they were extremely cute. 20. Garbage Pail Kids Cards Why you totally wanted this: 'Cause they were what all the ~cool~ kids in school had, even if they were more than a little horrifying. Also, the cards were stickers...STICKERS. 21. Fisher-Price 1-2-3 Roller Skates Why you totally wanted this: Because you badly wanted to be a "big kid" and learn how to skate. 22. Jem and the Holograms Dolls Why you totally wanted this: Well, if you couldn’t actually BE Jem, at least you could pretend to be her through this doll. PLUS, she came with the cassette tape with songs from the TV show — perfect for you to sing along to! 23. Little Tikes Cozy Coupe Why you totally wanted this: With a roof, doors you could open, and even a gas tank cap you could open, it felt like you were actually driving your own car. 24. Big Poppa Popcorn Maker Why you totally wanted this: OK, OK, so this is not a toy. But be honest — you wanted one badly to make movie nights even better (luxe, really). And you were probably jealous of your friend whose family owned one. 25. Nintendo Why you totally wanted this: In the '80s, this was the gold standard when it came to gifts you could get for Christmas! The only downside was you did actually have to share it with your brothers and/or sisters. 26. Pound Puppies Why you totally wanted this: They appealed to your burgeoning savior complex. I mean, who doesn't want to save a puppy?! 27. Troll Dolls Why you totally wanted this: They were adorably fugly and their hair was MAGIC. 28. My Little Pony Why you totally wanted this: They were MAGICAL PONIES that came in every color combination imaginable!!!! They also had a delightfully addictive plasticky scent to them. 29. G.I. Joe Action Figures Why you totally wanted this: You need to amass a decent collection in order to go to all-out battle with your sibling's or neighbor's G.I. Joes. 30. Speak & Spell Why you totally wanted this: Sure, it was meant for learning, but you definitely wanted to own one in order to hear its talking-robot-voice feature.
