Simon Electronic Game came out in 1978, and immediately took off — kids loved it. Simon is a game that tests your memorizing skills. The devices create a series of tones and lights, and it requires a user to repeat the series. Each time the users are successful in the pattern, the game gets more difficult and if the user makes a mistake the game is over. Simon is a game that is still played today — with many updates that have been added since its release in 1978.
The View-Master was one of the many toys that kept the kids from the 70s busy. Not only was this toy popular, but it didn’t break your parent’s pockets. It would be a guarantee that you would see this toy as a birthday or a Christmas present. Unlike other toys, the viewfinder never received a ban and only increased in popularity with each passing decade. Today, a different kind of view master is being made with technology, turning it into a virtual view master.
Pot strainers from the 70s are slightly different than the pot strainers today, or a lot different. In 2017, everything is more advanced and doing less has become a way to make life simpler. In 1970, the pot strainers weren’t terrible, they look rather simple. But as time went on, people found ways to make something simple even easier.
Chances are you’ll vaguely remember these if you were a kid from the 1970s. These fancy egg boilers were bigger during the 1950s-1960s but were still around during the 1970s. They may have been around, but they weren’t huge, but still really simple to use. Place the eggs onto the holder, put it into the pot, and wait until the time runs out — it can’t get any easier than that.
Like the 70s, Tupperware was really bright and colorful. Tupperware. was really popular throughout the 1950s-1970s. If you were remembering your mom throwing a Tupperware party, she wasn’t the only one. Tupperware parties had been taking place since the 1950s and carried on well into the 1970s. The 1970s Tupperware’s took a bright colorful twist, nothing was boring and plain, and each thing was a different color or a colorful top. Some women even made a living doing so, going from house to house attending small Tupperware parties.
If there’s one thing the 70s had, it was style or lack thereof. The 70s had some questionable styling options, but they were carefree with it. Any kid from the 70s will remember the huge collars that were always around, it would be insane how big they would go. If you were going out on a Friday night, people wanted to put on their Friday best. Most people would go with gigantic collars. Both female and male were into this fashion sense at the time — maybe it went with the flared pants.
Just like gigantic collars, tube socks, shag carpets, and hippies, macramé décor was made for the 1970s. If you’re a kid from the 1970s era and remember seeing these all over your home, you were not alone. Macrame décor was huge in the 70s and most, if not ever household, had some sort of design in them.
The televisions from the 1970s were nothing like the TV sets today. The televisions form the 70s were still a bit bulky and they were in wooden boxes. Sometimes television were used as furniture, it was so easy to place things on top of them because they were incredibly bulky. Kids from the 1970s got the chance to see television evolve in the last 40 years into what it is today.
Chances are if you’re a kid from this decade, you definitely sported both the tube socks and the tiny shorts. Just like the tube socks during the 1970s, short shorts were huge. Basketball players at the time would sport the tube socks and the shorts for their games. Men and women would take part in this decade-long fashion sense, along with the kids at school. Just like the tube socks, the shorts made their appearance indeed. When the 1980s came around, tiny shorts were out of fashion and were hardly seen.
