We all know we should keep perishable foods in the fridge, but there are some other foods and products you should be keeping in the refrigerator as well.
There are some surprising items on this list that need to be moved into your refrigerator as soon as possible. They might be sitting on your counter or you never knew they needed to be chilled! Read on to see which items need to be put in your fridge.
1. Dried Fruit
Dehydrated fruit doesn’t spoil as quickly as regular fruit, but if you put it in your fridge it will last about six months longer than it normally would. In particular, you need to put prunes, pears, peaches, and figs in the fridge.
2. Red Wine
Red wines should have a slight chill when served, about 30 minutes in the fridge. Make sure you keep your red wine in the fridge, especially before a party.
3. Salsa
After a jar of salsa has been opened, you need to put it in the fridge to keep it safe from bacteria. It will stay fresh in the fridge for about two weeks.
4. Apples
You can increase the shelf life of apples by keeping them in a fridge. This keeps them fresh for up to a week longer than if you put them on the counter.
5. Fresh Ginger
Fresh ginger will last about three weeks if you keep it unpeeled, wrapped in a paper towel and in a ziplock bag in your fridge.
6. Tortillas
Once you open a bag of soft tortillas, you need to put them in the fridge to keep them fresher longer.
7. Cut Flowers
