Viewers have been praising an emotional documentary for showing the positive results of a social experiment that placed a group of pre-schoolers in an old people's home - and the heart-warming friendships that flourished. Channel 4's Old People's Home For 4-Year-Olds followed ten little children as they moved their nursery into a care home near Bristol and got to know the elderly residents there. Octogenarian Hamish was initially skeptical about the experiment and thought it wouldn't make much of a difference to interact with the little ones every day - but turned out to be the biggest convert to the healing power of children's laughter. "This I think is going to be a total disaster. I can't quite see what effect the children are going to have on the adults. I can't really see what difference it's going to make for us," he said at the beginning of the program.
