4. Shirley MacLaine
Named after Shirley Temple, Shirley MacLaine has been a wide variety of films over the years despite not starting out as a child actress like her namesake. She’s had a wildly successful career, winning an Academy Award, five Golden Globes, an Emmy, and two BAFTA Awards. Shirley is probably best known for her roles in older films such as Around the World in 80 Days, Steel Magnolias, Postcards from the Edge, and The Apartment, but she’s still acting to this day! Some of her more recent works include The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, Wild Oats, and a recurring role on the popular television show Downton Abbey. She’s also released a number of autobiographies throughout the years, where she discusses her experiences in Hollywood, her travels around the world, and her New Age beliefs.
5. Julie Andrews
As the daughter of two vaudeville performers, Dame Julia “Julie” Elizabeth Andrews began receiving singing lessons at a young age. Her parents wanted to cultivate her four-octave singing range, and it’s a good thing they did! Julie was a performing singer all throughout her childhood and teen years, so it was easy for her to launch her career as a stage actress at the age of 20. Her career included several iconic roles, most notably the starring role in The Sound of Music and her portrayal of the singing nanny Mary Poppins in the film of the same name. The actress won an incredible number of awards throughout her career, including an Academy Award, a BAFTA, five Golden Globes, three Grammys, and two Emmys! In recent years, Julie has taken a break from acting to focus on other career goals like writing children’s books and directing films.
