Former President Jimmy Carter has taken yet another fall at his Georgia home and was hospitalized as a result. He was admitted to the Phoebe Sumter Medical Center “for observation and treatment,” says a spokesperson for The Carter Center. They tweeted out the news this morning that the former president had taken another fall.
“Former U.S. President Jimmy Carter had a fall yesterday evening at his home in Plains, Ga. He has been admitted to Phoebe Sumter Medical Center for observation and treatment of a minor pelvic fracture. He is in good spirits and is looking forward to recovering at home,” the statement says.
This is actually the third time Carter has taken a fall this year, and the second time this month alone. Earlier in May, Carter takes a fall and has to have surgery on his broken hip. And earlier in October, the 95-year-old had 14 stitches to his head and a nasty black eye after his fall then. Despite anything, he still managed to return to building houses for the needy with Habitat for Humanity, even in his condition.
Carter just keeps getting back up when he’s knocked down, and he has no plans to stop anytime soon. Back in 2015, he was diagnosed with cancer, and he clearly has beaten that off, too. “I just thought I had a few weeks left, but I was surprisingly at ease,” Carter says at the time. “I’ve had a full life, I have thousands of friends … so I was surprisingly at ease, much more so than my wife was.”
Then, within just months, the cancer had vanished following surgery and other immunotherapeutic treatments. Carter is obviously very grateful to have his life and still be kickin’ at his age. He plans to make the most of it!
“It’s hard to live until you’re 95 years old,” Carter tells PEOPLE earlier this month. “I think the best explanation for that is to marry the best spouse: someone who will take care of you and engage and do things to challenge you and keep you alive and interested in life.”
We pray that Jimmy Carter is resting and recovering well from this fall!
