Halloween is just a few weeks away and that means we’re getting a lot of Halloween specials airing on television soon! One of those specials we look forward to every year here at DYR is It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown! And thankfully for all you nostalgia lovers, we have the exact dates and times when you can watch this Halloween special. It’s airing TWO times this month!
A condensed, 30-minute version of the Halloween special will air Tuesday, Oct. 22 at 8 p.m. Sunday, Then, a full-length, hour-long version of the special will air Sunday, Oct. 27 at 7 p.m. Both will be on ABC! This broadcast will also include the bonus cartoon You’re Not Elected, Charlie Brown afterward.
It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown has been a beloved Halloween special since its original release in October 1966. It was the third Peanuts special to be produced and animated by Bill Melendez. Moreover, it was also the first Peanuts special to use the titular pattern that ends with “Charlie Brown”. This would then obviously remain the norm for all holiday specials to come.
The program was soon nominated for an Emmy Award in 1966. It was issued to home video several times and there was also a book called It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown: The Making of a Television Classic. This book includes the whole script, never-before-scene photos, storyboard excerpts, interviews, and more!
Do you remember watching It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown? Or, do you still watch it every year to this day? Take a walk down memory lane and check out this clip from the special below. It’ll definitely get you in the spooky spirit. Just in time for Halloween!
