Since all eyes are set on the political scene these days, we can’t help but imagine a parallel universe where the famous politicians of America stepped down only to be replaced by prominent celebrities. Chaos would probably ensue, but it’s an interesting thought to reflect upon. Here’s a list of 21 celebrities we think would make darn good politicians and maybe even presidents! 1. Sylvester Stallone One of the most popular action movie hunks of all time, Sylvester Stallone entered the world of showbiz in the ’70s, showing off his incredibly muscular body and ability to act like the ultimate badass on the big screen. He rose to fame with his role in the popular film series Rambo, portraying John Rambo, a soldier of the United States army. He is also famous for his portrayal of Rocky Balboa in the Rocky film series. Stallone is a person who understands leadership and deals with all matters in life with a firm hand and stout determination. He’s a strong Republican and even had the honor to meet Ronald Reagan in 1985. He received high praise for the inspiration Rocky Balboa provided to the US army. Straightforward, determined and disciplined, the traits every politician should master before engaging in paper wars. 2. Clint Eastwood Just imagine Clint Eastwood in a suit, giving an impressive speech with his raspy voice, getting things done his way and leading the nation toward prosperity and blissfulness. It really isn’t that hard to picture, especially when you take Clint’s charisma into account. Everybody’s favorite cowboy is well-known as a hard worker and somebody who doesn’t run away from a challenge. In 1992, Eastwood acknowledged that his political views amount to something between the ideas of Milton Friedman and Noam Chomsky, adding that this kind of view would make for a worthwhile presidential ticket. He’s an educated man who’s seen a lot in life and we feel like he would definitely be able to do the right things behind a desk, given the right amount of power. Also, can you imagine him saying “Go ahead, make my day” to his political opponents? It would be the best thing ever. 3. Jon Stewart There’s something about people who have mastered the ancient art of satire that makes us believe they would be fine leaders. After all, if that person makes people laugh with their comedic portrayal of the current state of the country, that means that they must be doing something right. Jon Stewart has been making people laugh their butts off for 16 years by doing exactly that. As the host of The Daily Show, Stewart was always well versed in the world’s latest events, especially those concerning the political scene. He was up-to-date with everything going on and, even though he was joking most of the time, he showed that he had a rather interesting point of view. In fact, there are thousands of Stewart’s fans that hope he will eventually move from TV to the oval office – the “Jon Stewart for President” Facebook page currently has over 17,000 likes! 4. George Clooney When it comes to winning the presidential elections, a lot of modern-day politicians tend to forget that they have to be likable to run the country. It kind of goes like this: 1) Likability is an incredibly important factor. 2) George Clooney is one of the most likable people in Hollywood. 3) Do you really need step 3? Clooney was also considered Hollywood’s most eligible bachelor until he married human rights lawyer Amal Alamuddin and with good reason! Just take a look at his long and impressive acting career, as well as his long and impressive history of capturing the hearts of millions of women around the world. He’s reportedly one of the kindest people in showbiz and in 2014, the New York Daily News even went as far as to say that Clooney could easily fit the role JFK left. 5. Tina Fey You know, it’s not uncommon to see grumpy and overly serious politicians yelling at each other on TV. In fact, Obama is one of the first modern-day presidents to realize how important it is that people see a friendly, smiling face instead of a face devoid of all emotions. Basically, a good sense of humor is essential to any position of power and there’s no one better to make the entire country laugh than comedian/writer Tina Fey. Fey is best-known for her versatile skills as a humorist, although she’s no stranger to politics. Millions of people have seen her impersonation of former vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin because of two reasons – it was hilarious to the point of spitting your beverage and it was pretty close to the real deal. 6. Oprah Winfrey The host of one of the most popular talk shows in the world is one of the most powerful media moguls in American history and she has dwelled in the world of politics before. She’s got the posture, she’s got the wits, she’s got the brawn. Also, her fiery temperament is not to be taken lightly and most importantly, she has years and years of experience in front of the camera. Additionally, her candidacy would generate a whole heap of support among African-American voters, as well as females all around the country. That would mean she would be the second black president to run the United States and we can’t help but wonder if it would work out. Oh, and let’s not forget that Oprah’s very, very deep pockets could easily finance her campaign. 7. Morgan Freeman Being, without a doubt, one of the most outspoken and opinionated people in Hollywood, actor Morgan Freeman has proven over the years that he doesn’t have a problem with publicly sharing his opinion, no matter how controversial it might be. Let’s not forget 2012, when Freeman said that he did not believe Barack Obama should be considered the first black president of the United States since he only has one black parent. Millions were infuriated by this comment, but Freeman remained completely unbothered – a valuable skill for any man or woman willing to run for office. What’s more, he has one of the most soothing voices anyone’s ever heard and a charming and charismatic personality that will appeal to pretty much anyone. 8. Stephen Colbert Comedian and talk show host Stephen Colbert rose to fame as a mock news correspondent on Comedy Central’s The Daily Show before he got a chance to host his own spin-off The Colbert Report. He received acclaim in 2014 when he announced that he would be replacing David Letterman as host of CBS’ Late Show. Colbert is notable as being one of the most prominent political satirists around and where there’s good satire, there’s also a good understanding of how things work. In fact, in 2008, he even announced that he was running for US presidency and many Americans genuinely believed in his plan to bring “truthiness” to the country. Sadly, he didn’t make it to the White House, but we’re certain he would be a great president. 9. Angelina Jolie Let’s be honest, we need gorgeous and charming women on the political scene and Angelina Jolie is definitely gorgeous beyond belief and as charming as it gets. More importantly, Angelina has already shown that she has some basic insight on how matters are handled when it comes to politics. Even though her political stance has left a lot of people bewildered, Jolie has become one of Hollywood’s most famous do-gooders. Angelina doesn’t have a problem with standing up for a good cause and she has been to all four corners of the world in an attempt to make our planet a better place. She even openly criticized Barack Obama in 2014, showing that she’s not afraid to openly express her opinion. Let’s not forget that she said that she was open to a career in politics. 10. Sandra Bullock Speaking of gorgeous and charming women, you won’t find a more amicable presidential candidate than Sandra Bullock. As we’ve seen in the case with Hillary Clinton, it’s paramount to have a deep connection with the general public. Well, Sandra Bullock has managed to warm the hearts of all Americans for years by being one of the most likable on-screen personas and off-screen philanthropists. It doesn’t matter what it’s about – the Haiti earthquake, the Japanese tsunami, the Katrina Hurricane – Sandra Bullock will be there to lend a helping hand if she can. She has a long history of helping people, not just in her own country, but also across international waters. This type of spirit, determination, and commitment are what make foreign diplomats pay attention and Bullock’s influence and charisma would be hard to ignore in the political scene. 11. Jay-Z Most hopeful immigrants have heard about “The American Dream,” although most of them come to realize that it should be called “The American Hustle.” In that respect, Jay-Z has quite a lot of experience, seeing as how he’s a born and bred New Yorker from the School of Hard Knocks. It might be true that his past transgressions go just a tad bit beyond smoking a little Mary Jane, but as soon as he got his foot in the door, he became a modern mogul of the music industry. As the co-founder of Roc-A-Fella Records and the founder of Roc Nation, there probably isn’t a person in the US who hasn’t heard about Jay-Z. In the world of politics, popularity equals power. Jay-Z is a highly renowned entrepreneur with a stunningly vast reach across the entertainment industry – and let’s not forget that he’s married to Beyoncé! 12. Leonardo DiCaprio Leonardo DiCaprio was born and raised in Los Angeles, managing to work his way from the bottom to the top using nothing but his charm, patience and, of course, natural talent. You could easily say that Leonardo’s the quintessential “pretty boy” of Hollywood who transcended his image from pretty boy to “successful man” through wise casting choices. While doing so, he lent his financial and political support to raise awareness for global warming and the Wildlife Conservation Society, earning more popularity points. It’s common to associate DiCaprio’s image with someone who’s dating supermodels, but he’s actually a man whose concerns extend far beyond the luxuries of fame and fortune. He’s a renowned philanthropist who speaks through his actions. 13. Dwayne Johnson Here’s the thing about Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson: you might mistake him for the average Hollywood hunk who’s all brawn and no brains and nobody would judge you for thinking so. However, the truth is that he’s actually quite easy to root for. You might say he’s one bad dude in the best possible way. He could easily land the fanboy vote, seeing as he’s arguably the biggest WWE star of all time, as well as a respected Hollywood personality – far more than your average steroid-pumped bald-headed wrestler in search of a couple of dollars. The Rock IS filthy rich, don’t get us wrong, but to achieve such international acclaim as a wrestling star, you need to possess a certain amount of wits and charisma – both of which Dwayne Johnson has in ample amounts. He also has a background in criminology, which would probably help him amass millions of followers. 14. Matt Damon Matt Damon, the ass-kicking star of the Bourne franchise, may have a pretty face, but what many people don’t know is that he attended Harvard University in the late 80’s and early 90’s. What they also might not know is that he began writing Good Will Hunting during the time, which is not something to be overlooked so easily. Today, Damon is a legit Hollywood mogul and continues to drive his energy toward fighting destruction and disease around the world. With the help of his fellow Ocean’s 11 co-stars, he founded the Not On Our Watch Project. He’s also the man behind the H20 Africa Foundation. You might say he’s a well-rounded actor, but more importantly, he’s a well-rounded human. 15. Kelsey Grammer Kelsey Grammer is one of the few celebs who decided to side with the Republican Party and openly support them. He would definitely shake up the establishment if he were to follow through with his political ambitions. Apart from the obvious fame achieved through his entertainment career, Grammer has seen tragedy and lived through personal heartbreak that many Americans can relate to – in 1975, his sister was raped and murdered by spree killer and rapist Freddie Lee Glenn. Additionally, Frasier producer David Angell, who was a good friend of Grammer, passed away during the 9/11 attacks. We all know how much the common folk love tragedy and Grammer definitely wouldn’t be the first person to score some political points out of pity (even though he has never expressed any desire to do so, mind you, this is all purely hypothetical). Grammer has deep connections within the Republican Party, although his personal history of substance abuse might cause some skepticism during election time. 16. Michael Moore The American documentary filmmaker, screenwriter, author, journalist, actor and left-wing political activist famous for cult releases such as Bowling for Columbine and Fahrenheit 9/11 apparently has a strong interest in American politics. To be precise, Michael Moore doesn’t agree with pretty much anything that’s going on. He even used the Academy Awards as an opportunity to openly express his opposition to the 2003 invasion of Iraq, much to the dissent of the bulk of conservative-minded members of the audience. Many would agree that all we need is strict opposition and if Moore would ever make his way to the Oval Office, he would finally have a chance to put his money where his mouth is. The problem is that he’d probably find solving the nation’s problems a lot harder when you’re the man in charge than when you’re editing a movie about it, but still. 17. Alec Baldwin Apart from being famous for his portrayal of Jack Donaghy on the NBC sitcom 30 Rock, Alec Baldwin is well-known for his outspoken opinions. He has openly stated on numerous occasions that he would consider running for office. He is a dedicated Liberal, both in vocal and financial terms – since 1989, he has donated more than $144,000 to liberal candidates and committees. That’s more money than an average American would make in three years. Baldwin even considered attempting to run for New York City’s mayor in 2013, but ultimately decided that he would have more success as an actor. Now that 30 Rock is over, it might be the perfect moment for Baldwin to clean the dust off his political ambitions and think about running for a chair in the office. 18. Tom Cruise American actor and filmmaker Tom Cruise has been nominated for three Academy Awards and won three Golden Globe Awards. He engaged in acting when he starred in the 1981 film Endless Love. After that, Cruise went on to become one of the most prominent modern-day actors around. If popularity points wouldn’t be enough, let’s not forget that Tom Cruise is actually highly ranked in the Church of Scientology and that the current leader David Miscavige was even Cruise’s best man on both of his weddings – with Nicole Kidman and Katie Holmes. As the most famous Scientologist in the world, there’s no doubt that Cruise is indeed a powerful man and power is a weapon not to be messed with in the world of politics. He has the charm, the money, the looks, the wits and the background to back him up. In fact, he even once admitted to being open to a position in the office. Here’s what he said: “If f–ing Arnold (Schwarzenegger) can be governor, I could be president. 19. Ben Affleck Whether you like him or not, Ben Affleck is a popular name in Hollywood. His career started when he landed his groundbreaking role in the Academy Award-winning movie Good Will Hunting and spiraled out of control with roles in movies such as Armageddon and Shakespeare in Love. His career suffered a rapid decline after he starred in Daredevil but Ben returned to the spotlight when he co-produced and acted in the movie Argo, earning a Golden Globe for best director and the 2013 Oscar for best picture. The next Batman actor has long been the subject of speculation whether he should make a political run. Affleck is an outspoken Democratic donor and activist and has made occasional trips to Washington to testify on Capitol Hill. Even his wife Jennifer Garner explained that Ben feels like he can do more good for people with the help of politics, albeit outside the system. However, she did add that she wouldn’t be surprised if he went into politics and there probably isn’t a person that knows him better than her. 20. Howard Stern Let’s be perfectly honest here, a good politician has to be a good spokesperson – it’s a battle of words most of the time, so if you don’t have advanced rhetorical skills, you’ve pretty much lost before you even began. Howard Stern is arguably one of the coolest people in the world and has successfully led the popular Howard Stern Show for 30 years. The SiriusXM radio host shouldn’t be too surprised if voters decided to pick him in the future. Back in 1993, Stern ran as a Libertarian in New York’s gubernatorial race and added that he was “dead serious” about it at the time. However, he withdrew his candidacy overwhelmed by the vagueness of bureaucracy. Fortunately, that wasn’t the end of it. Former Minnesota Gov. Jesse Ventura said he would love to have Stern as a running mate in the 2016 presidential bid. 21. Clay Aiken Back in the days when American Idol was a show so popular that its contestants often became huge celebrities, Clay Aiken was the runner-up of Season 2. Naturally, he enjoyed a moderately successful music career but afterward shifted his attention to politics and activism in the LGBT community. The openly gay Aiken ran for Congress representing North Carolina in 2014 and actually managed to win the Democratic primary. Even though he lost the seat to Republican incumbent Renee Elmers in the general election later that year, there were many who agreed that Aiken managed to show an incredible amount of political aptitude for someone who has never dwelled in the political seas.
