This Is Why You’ll Never Find A Can Of Arizona Iced Tea For More Than 99 Cents

By Lauren Novak

There is nothing more refreshing than a giant can of Arizona Iced Tea. The best part? It always seems to be only 99 cents wherever you go! Those big cans are 23 fl. oz of iced tea or juice drinks and you can find them at any grocery or convenience store with a sign that says “Great buy! 99 cents!”. Have you ever wondered why the prices never seem to go up after all these years?

Arizona Beverages first came out with their brand of iced tea in 1992. The “Arnold Palmer blend” quickly became the most popular, mixing iced tea and lemonade. They now offer tons of different flavors and sell their products in other countries too, but the 99 cent price for cans seems to be consistent.

What Does The Company Say About The 99 Cent Cans?

According to Thrillist, the company’s Chief Marketing Officer and Co-Owner Spencer Vultaggio said, “The cans are synonymous with 99 cents now. Our fans love it. They’ve grown up with us, and they’ll always know they can head to their local store and our drinks will be 99 cents.” What a comforting thought indeed.

To keep their prices so low, they don’t advertise much. Think about it. When is the last time you saw an advertisement for these delicious drinks? Keeping the cans cheap and utilizing social media to its fullest are big parts of their advertising strategy.

How Else Do They Make Money?

Unfortunately, they can’t really police the price nationwide at different stores, so often they cover the cans with bright price tags. But, beyond the no advertising strategy, they also thin their cans and improve their technology to cut down on expenses.

Not to mention, they have other larger products that cost more than 99 cents. They offer hot tea, soda pop, powder mix packets, different flavors of “Arnold Palmer” drinks, different juice and sports drink flavors, and even energy drinks. One of their newer products is sparking flavored water too.

We are happy to say that Arizona cans will be 99 cents probably for a lifetime if they have stayed the same price for 27 years! What is your favorite Arizona drink flavor? Do you like the 99 cent cans or do you prefer to buy the larger jugs filled with delicious tea?
