The website Hayneedle recently did some research on Google trends and what kinds of Thanksgiving recipes people search for based on where they live. When you think of the south, you might think of cranberry salad, collard greens, buttermilk rolls, and everything deep-fried. However, that was not what southerners ended up searching for the most.
What Southerners Search For Most
Southerners (in particular people from Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Missouri, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Texas) all searched for pecan pie recipes the most.
Curious about other states? Illinois and Delaware residents searched mostly for sweet potato and stuffing recipes. Over half of the country (mainly West, Mid-West and some Eastern states) searched for the best pumpkin pie recipe. Many of the Eastern states searched for apple pie recipes. You may think about pecan pie as being a very old Southern tradition, but it is actually fairly new on many Southern Thanksgiving tables.
