This Is Why Having A Sister Can Make You A Much Happier Person

Do you have a sister? Many of us have sisters and the relationship between siblings can vary. However, studies have shown that if you have a sister, you are more likely to be happy. Even if they cause you troubles and annoy you every once in a while.

So, why is this? Why don’t brothers give us the same levels of happiness? Of course it is different for everyone and every family, but in general, studies show that those with sisters are more content with life in general.

A study from De Montfont and Ulster Universities in the UK asked over 500 people between the ages of 17 and 25 to fill out a questionnaire about their mental health. Results from the study showed that people who grew up with sisters were more content in general.

The researchers believe this is because women tend to have more open communication, good emotional expression, and try to hold families together. Sisters tend to promote emotional expression and that is very important for good mental health. Unfortunately, studies show that the opposite effect happens with brothers.

They believe that boys have a natural tendency to keep quiet and not discuss feelings. Girls tend to break that down, especially sisters. Do you agree? Before you go yell at your brother for being bad for your mental health, studies have shown that having a sibling of either gender makes you a kinder person. Do you agree with that one?

If you have a sister, send her one of these quotes about sisters:

“A sister is both your mirror – and your opposite.” – Elizabeth Fishel

“A sister is a little bit of childhood that can never be lost.”

“Sister and friend. Two words that mean the same thing.”

“Happiness is being with my sister.”

“Sisters are blessed with an extra sense that whispers when the other needs them.”

“Sisters don’t need words. They have perfected their own secret language of smiles, sniffs, sighs, gasps, winks and eye rolls.”

“A sister is a gift to the heart. A friend to the spirit. A golden thread to the meaning of life.”

“The greatest gift our parents ever gave us was each other.”

Do you have any brothers and sisters? Do you agree or disagree with the results of this study? Which quote is your favorite?
