Fall is a magical time of year. The leaves start changing colors, the air gets crisp and cool, and you can now eat cider and donuts without regret. Do you remember driving around as a kid and taking in all the fall colors? If you love fall, it is also a great time to take a vacation and see the sights. New England, in particular, is a great place to visit as the leaves change their colors.
Here are some of the top inns and bed and breakfasts to put on your bucket list for a fall trip:
Barnard, Vermont has the Maple Leaf Inn, which looks just like an old-fashioned farmhouse. There are amazing views of the surrounding mountains and acres upon acres of birch trees. It looks like a great romantic getaway and is very close to Woodstock, Vermont.
The Mayor’s Mansion Inn is historic in Chattanooga, Tennessee. They offer several ways to view the amazing fall foliage. You can take a boat ride on the Tennessee River or take a train ride on the Tennessee Valley Railroad and feel like you are going back in time. This bed and breakfast’s history goes all the way back to 1889. It was once Edmond G. Watkins’ home when he was the mayor of Chattanooga.
In the small town of Skaneateles, New York, you can find the Sherwood Inn. The inn is most known for their waterside views and there is plenty to do while you visit. You can go to a winery, apple orchard or hang out by the beautiful lake.
Another inn in New York, this inn also offers amazing waterside views. They have some nice terraces and verandas to check out the fall foliage around the lake. You can also take a drive on the Cayuga Lake Scenic Byway and see even more scenery.
Berry Manor Inn is naturally known for their berries and pies. Located in Rockland, Maine, this interesting inn has what they call “Pie Moms”. They bake the pies and keep the guest pantry stocked up with delicious berry pies. Maine is also known for gorgeous fall foliage views and colors peak in early October.
In Waynesville, North Carolina, you can stay here and get all-inclusive meals. Located right in the Smoky Mountains, the views are insane. The food is a close second and meals here are quite popular.
Have you ever heard of Bird-in-Hand, Pennslyvania? While the name of the town is kind of strange, this location is prime for orange-colored trees. It is a Victorian mansion that is near an Amish village.
In the White Mountains of New Hampshire, Notchland Inn is also known for their fancy dinners. If you’re a foodie, come to try their four-course dinners with meals like sage-cured roast pork loin. They generally get booked pretty quickly during fall foliage season because the views and food are that awesome.
In Ridgedale, Missouri, the Big Cedar Lodge is called a wilderness resort. If you are into exercising among the fall leaves, this would be a great option for you. You can hike, bike, jog, or horseback ride on their grounds. It is almost like a park and inn all in one. They also have a pretty cool golf course.
In Pearisburg, Virginia, check out views of the New River and Appalachian Mountains at the Inn at Riverbend. Virginia leaves are at their peak of beauty in mid-October. The best part of this inn is their huge terrace with rocking chairs, where you can sit and take in all the colors.
If you are looking for a luxurious mountain trip, go to Highlands, North Carolina. They have a spa, a golf course, and multiple restaurants. They boast a really cool “Shadow of the Bear” on the Whiteside Mountain from October 15 to November 15. There are also amazing views of the Blue Ridge Mountains.
