Created back in the 1930s, Looney Tunes has been a staple in children’s television for decades. Even kids today take a strong liking to the cartoon. Produced by Warner Bros., the comedy shorts starred world-renowned characters like Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, and Porky Pig.
However, despite how big of fans we all might be, there are still tons of surprising facts out there about the show, the characters, and much more. Here are 10 surprising facts about Looney Tunes!
Did you know that Tweety bird’s real name was actually Orson?
Apparently, Tweety was also supposed to be pink, not yellow.
Sylvester the cat’s name was actually a pun on the scientific word ‘silvestris’.
The term itself means ‘wildcat.’
Apparently, Yosemite Sam is actually viewed as Sam the Pirate in France.
Most know him as a cowboy, but France sees him as a pirate.
Witch Hazel is the only character in the Looney Tunes franchise to make appearances in both Warner Bros. and Disney shorts.
Bosko was actually the first major Looney Tunes character to be designed and developed.
His first appearance was in 1929.
Many have probably wondered what the ‘E.’ in Wile E. Coyote stands for.
It apparently stands for Ethelbert.
The general fan favorite is Taz, the Tasmanian Devil.
However, his character appeared in only five different shorts throughout the run, despite being a favorite.
Porky Pig was originally voiced by a stutterer who later was fired.
He was replaced by Mel Blanc because the original just wasn’t able to get through his lines.
Marvin the Martian was not actually named in the original Looney Tunes animated shorts.
Private Snafu appeared in 26 shorts for the U.S. Army during World War II. These shorts were not available to the public until recently.
