Dog’s Tongue Turns Blue On Flight, Then JetBlue Flight Attendants Jump Into Action

A French bulldog was saved on a JetBlue flight recently. Steven and Michelle Burt were traveling with their 3-year-old dog, Darcy. They noticed that Darcy was struggling to breathe and seemed panicked.

The JetBlue crew quickly went into action. They took Darcy out of his pet carrier and noticed that his gums and tongue were turning blue. This means that he wasn’t getting enough oxygen during the flight.

Two flight attendants named Renaud Fenster and Diane Asher sprung into action and used a small oxygen mask and saved the dog. They also brought him ice bags and water. After he was doing a little better, they also brought him a small oxygen tank and mask to help Darcy during the rest of the flight.

Darcy is now in full recovery and his owners went to Facebook to share the story and express their gratitude to the team for saving his life. JetBlue also released a statement that thanked the crew members and shared that it is their goal to have everyone enjoy a safe and comfortable flight, even our canine friends.

Here is part of the Facebook post: “Renaud Spencer and Diane Asher were the helpers today. It may have been only a “dog” to some, not a major disaster certainly, but a family member to us. Goodness and kindness along with the ability to assess a medical crisis, albeit a canine in crisis saved the day. But the little boy in the seat behind Darcy was paying close attention.

Darcy has made a complete recovery and I will confirm with my vet and will not fly with her in the future without my vet’s clearance.

But I wanted to say thank you Jetblue and thank you to Renaud and Diane for doing their job and also being great humans. My husband travels frequently and we are grateful for Jetblue and the ease and comfort of the extra legroom, tv service and general decency among staff that we observed over the years but now we have another reason to be grateful. Thank you.”
