Krispy Kreme is like the doughnut capital of the world. This place has been delighting us all and tickling our taste buds since the ’30s. They’re still going strong today and can easily give Dunkin’ Donuts a run for their money.

Vernon Rudolph founded Krispy Kreme all those years ago in 1937 in North Carolina. He rented out a building to begin making his doughnuts and sold them out to grocery stores. Due to high demand, he had to open the business directly and begin selling them to customers on the sidewalk!
The original doughnuts are the ones that kept the longtime, loyal customers coming back for more. The Original Glazed ones are fried in vegetable shortening covered in a warm sugar glaze, creating the familiar, delicious flavor we all love.
Originally, you could expect your average hot cup of coffee from Krispy Kreme, but now they’re incorporating iced coffee and other flavored drinks. Dunkin’ and Starbucks better watch out!
NC State University has begun an annual race called the Krispy Kreme Challenge, where competitors run 5 miles and consume 12 doughnuts along the way. In case you were wondering, that’s 2,400 calories. Oh, by the way, you have to do it all in 1 hour. Proceeds benefit the North Carolina Children’s Hospital. Ready, set, go!
Krispy Kreme always has promotions going on throughout the year that allows customers to snatch up some free treats. Be sure to pay attention to their social media so you don’t miss out!
Krispy Kreme won the world record for largest box of doughnuts, measuring over 19 by 13 inches and weighing in at 297 pounds, 10 ounces.
