Whether you call it Buffalo Wild Wings or its well-known nickname, B-Dubs, you probably love their wings, sauces and many, many TV screens. Buffalo Wild Wings is a popular restaurant for chicken wing lovers but there are many things about the restaurant and its history that you may not know.
Two guys who were from Buffalo, New York, where the famous wings originated, missed them so much they decided to build a restaurant in their new town. They lived in Colombus, Ohio and couldn’t find a restaurant that served wings, so that is where their idea came from. It was originally called Buffalo Wild Wings and Weck or BW3. A weck is a popular sandwich that originates in New York as well. It is a sandwich that contains thinly-sliced roast beef and is served with horseradish and au jus on a roll. The sandwich was not popular enough to stay on the namesake.
Jim Disbrow, one of the founders of Buffalo Wild Wings, was actually a famous figure skater. He won national medals in his teen years and was an alternate for the 1968 U.S. Olympic team. He later became a coach and a judge.
The many TVs originally played music videos instead of sports. Can you imagine Buffalo Wild Wings not being centered around watching a sports game?
If you love spicy food and are feeling brave, take the Blazin’ Challenge. You must eat 12 of their hottest wings in under 6 minutes to win a free t-shirt. The rules are no drinking, no use of dipping sauces, no puking and no crying. Yikes! Could you do it?
They have many retired sauces including Salted Caramel BBQ, Wicked Wasabi, and Ghost Pepper.
Do you like Buffalo Wild Wings? What kind of wings and sauces are your favorites?
