Summer is here! Usually, that means you might be having more outdoor parties or BBQs or simply eating different foods. As tasty as some foods are for you, there are some items that you should never share with your dog.
Dog owners know that our furry companions will often beg for anything or might get into food that is dropped on the floor. But during the summer, this especially not safe! Make sure to never let your dog have any of these foods.
1. Grapes or raisins
Grapes and raisins are very toxic to dogs. Don’t let them eat anything with grapes or raisins in them or they will quickly vomit and could experience kidney failure.
2. Chocolate
This one is pretty obvious for most people. Don’t let your dog eat anything that contains chocolate because it is toxic to them as well.
3. Garlic
Garlic is another toxic food to dogs and could cause anemia, which is very serious. Avoid giving your dog anything with garlic, onions, chives or leeks.
4. Ice cream or anything dairy
While it isn’t the end of the world if your dog gets a little ice cream, dairy typically doesn’t digest very well in dogs. So, keep in mind if your dog does get a dairy treat they may have some stomach troubles.
5. Alcohol and coffee
Two stimulant beverages to keep away from your pup. Both can cause diarrhea and vomiting and other serious issues if they drink too much.
6. Macadamia nuts
Peanuts are okay for dogs to eat, but anything with macadamia nuts should be avoided. Eating them can affect their nervous system and cause vomiting, increased body temperature, and lethargy.
If your dog does get into a food that they shouldn’t, make sure to call your vet as soon as possible. Keep a list of foods that dogs shouldn’t eat handy on the fridge to remind yourself and others who visit your home.
