There’s been a lot of drama recently regarding Meghan Markle’s family. For the past week or so, Meghan’s father has gone back and forth on whether or not he would be able to attend the wedding.

On May 17, 2018, just two days before her wedding, Meghan released a statement saying that her father, Thomas, would not be attending the ceremony due to health issues.

The statement says, “Sadly, my father will not be attending our wedding. I have always cared for my father and hope he can be given the space he needs to focus on his health. I would like to thank everyone who has offered generous messages of support. Please know how much Harry and I look forward to sharing our special day with you on Saturday.”

Since her father can’t attend her wedding, Meghan asked Harry’s father, Prince Charles, to walk her down the aisle instead. Prince Charles didn’t hesitate to respond, and agreed to accompany his future daughter-in-law down the aisle.

This isn’t the first time Prince Charles has walked a bride down the aisle. He also accompanied his close friend, Alexandra Knatchbull, down the aisle in 2016.

Meghan’s mother, Doria Ragland, has already arrived in the U.K. to spend time with her daughter and future in-laws before the big day. Doria will be the one to take her daughter to the chapel in the morning.
