The Kennedys summered in Hyannis Port, Massachusetts. The family enjoyed sailing, swimming, and horseback riding right off of the island of Nantucket. This photo was taken in 1953, while the couple was happily engaged.
Back for the summer… plus one! Caroline Kennedy joins in on all of the summer fun in Hyannis Port. This shot shows the family teaching little Caroline to read on a beautiful summer day.
Even Jackie’s simpler looks were major moments for the fashion industry. Lilly Pulitzer credits the bright colors frequently worn by Jackie Kennedy as an inspiration for her preppy, mega-successful brand. Even at a casual picnic, the First Lady managed to look radiant in a simple lime green shift dress.
What a look! Many upper-class socialites know that a trip to the opera is not focused on the singing — but rather, the fashion! Jackie Kennedy glowed in this floor-length yellow gown at the Metropolitan Opera House.
Less about the performance and more about the fashion. here’s Mrs. Kennedy, accompanied by Lee Radziwill, leaving a performance at the Alvin Theater in Manhattan. All eyes were on Jackie in this ensemble. It was a bit different than her usual pearls and pillbox hat look!
How overwhelmingly, yet predictably posh! The fashion icon wears her signature pink while taking a stroll around Amalfi. The Kennedy’s yacht, which took them to the Amalfi coast, was called Agneta — a Greek baby name.
Mrs. Kennedy looks fabulous as ever here, but her two children and pony definitely steal the show. Caroline took after her mom; she was an equestrienne as soon as she could walk. Little John Kennedy looks pretty excited to ride the pony next, but he’s waiting pretty patiently!
Mrs. Kennedy stuns in a shimmering gold pantsuit at the International Center of Photography in 1978. Jackie had been married to her second husband, Aristotle Onassis for five years at the time of this photograph. Her second marriage earned the former First Lady the nickname of “Jackie O.”
