The photograph of California’s hills in luscious and rainy January named “Bliss” is claimed to be the most famous picture on earth, made popular by Microsoft company who used it as the default desktop wallpaper for their Windows XP operating system. The nature photographer behind the world famous snapshot, Charles O’Rare was now contacted by Lufthansa and asked to do the same kind of magic he did 15 years ago, yet this time for smartphones.
The project titled “New Angles of America” presents 3 gorgeous pictures made specifically for smartphone screens. “You see your smartphone background photo hundreds of times a day so that photo should really make you feel something,” claims the photographer and, indeed, his images are surely impactful. The grandeur and simplicity of them is a good reminder why the photographer’s pictures attracted so much attention.
O’Rear appreciates the attention he’s received over the years.“I am turning seventy-six and realize how much the Microsoft Bliss photograph has meant to my life. As the photographer of the most viewed photo in history, I have enjoyed every minute of the fame.”
