Back-combing, ratting, teasing, whatever you called it it was murder on the hair. But, it made for some incredible bouffant hairdos.
This fad morphed into the poncho fad of the ’70s, but the capes we had in the ’60s were thick and very stylish at the time!
Most of them were as shapeless as could be and pretty dang short. While we wouldn’t call these flattering on everyone, as young ladies we loved this look. All the better if you had a matching headband.
Who else remembers their catchy slogan? It’s a shame the taste wasn’t as savory!
I had these! My girlfriends and I would do each others’ hair at school. I had the longest hair so I was the one that got experimented on the most! If I could get different color headbands in my hair, I was the happiest girl in school.
I don’t think there was a day of middle school without one of these headbands in my hairdo! Below is a montage of more memories from the late ’60s and early ’70s.
