15 Things You Didn't Know About “The Lion King”

The Lion King, made in 1994, is both miraculous and stunning. Colossal themes of family corruption and undying loyalty make this movie a wonder to behold. Here are some awesome facts about this epic movie that you may not know: 1. When Pumbaa farted, it was the first time this happened in a Disney movie. 2. This movie changed its theme. Originally, it was going to be about a conflict between lions and baboon and Scar was going to lead the baboons. Also, Rafiki was going to be a cheetah. 3. The original title to this film was, ‘King of the Jungle’ until Disney realized that lions don’t live in the jungle. 4. The original ending was going to be Simba being thrown off the cliff during the last battle against Scar and that was that. However, the film shows us that Simba survived the fall. 5. Liam Neeson nearly got the role of Mufasa. 6. ‘Can you feel the love tonight?’ was supposed to be a comic duet between Timon and Pumbaa. However, Elton John didn’t believe that the song would win an oscar if that were to happen. 7. Disney had two teams working on two different films. This one and Pocahontas. They originally pinned their hopes on Pocahontas to be their great success but The Lion King out grossed it by far. 8. James Earl Jones and Madge Sinclair both did the voices for the King (Mufasa) and the Queen (Sarabi) and they both portrayed a king and queen in the hit movie, Coming to America (1988), 9. Jeremy Irons’ features were worked into the character that he voiced, Scar. 10. This was the first Disney movie to be dubbed into Zulu for its African release. 11. When Elton John screened the film before it was released, he noticed that his song, ‘Can you feel the love tonight?’ was removed. Also, Mickey Mouse appears in the stars when Mufasa tells Simba about the Great Kings of the Past. 14. This movie was the highest grossing movie on record until 2013 when it was surpassed by Frozen. 15. These two were not supposed to be related at first.
