25 Jaw Dropping Rare Historic Photos

There are certain photographs that permeate our culture in ubiquitous fashion. In other words, they are everywhere! But since we all know the famous photos, what fun would it be to show them here? Fear not, the following selections include only those photos which are rare and have been largely unseen. Be prepared to be amazed… 1. Marilyn Monroe, age 17 Marilyn got married in 1942, just after turning 16 years old. After working at a Radioplane factory during World War II, she was discovered by an Army/Air Forces photographer, prompting her to quit her job to pursue a modeling career. 2. Bob Marley with Miss World, Cindy Breakspeare – 1976 They are the parents of Damian Marley. Cindy has recently divulged details about her relationship with the late reggae artist, “He was not only attractive but intimidating for a young girl like me. I knew instinctively if I were to enter into this relationship with him, it would change the trajectory of my life forever.” 3. 1970’s Hitchhikers Back when hitchhiking wasn’t dangerous… sort of. Believe it or not, there was once not a stigma attached to hitchhiking. In the 1960’s and 70’s, it was even thought to be ‘cool.’ Good luck trying to sell that idea to parents nowadays. Our next rare photograph is of one of the most beautiful women of all-time. 4. Lynda Carter – 1976 After being voted “Most Talented” while attending Arizona State University, she dropped out to pursue a career in music. The angel of everyone’s dreams, Lynda Carter graced our TV screens as Wonder Woman from 1975-1979. 5. Sorority sisters at University of Texas – 1945 After the war, a huge amount of returning veterans went to college, reinvigorating the party scene. These sorority sisters at UT are representative of all college students during the late 1940’s and 1950’s. They finally shared a renewed sense of optimism following the previous decade of war and financial depression. Wait until you see the NEXT... 6. Debbie Harry – 1976 Star of the band Blondie, Debbie Harry was known for her innovative fashion. The 1960’s were all about experimentation, obviously. But Harry’s look has lasted through generations to this day. 7. Ice Cube and Axl Rose – 1989 NWA debuted in 1986, while Gun N’ Roses got together in 1985. Both groups were from Los Angeles and represented opposite counter culture elements of the city. 8. Grace Kelly – 1955 Kelly was married to the Prince of Monaco until her death in 1982. Her acting career was quick but pronounced. She retired at the age of 26 to fulfill her duties as Princess of Monaco. 9. Sigourney Weaver – 1983 Daughter of the famous NBC TV executive, Pat Weaver. The actress made her silver screen debut in Annie Hall and has maintained a consistent, successful presence ever since. She has been nicknamed “The Sci-Fi Queen” because of her contribution to the genre. 10. Clint Eastwood doing push-ups Reader’s Digest Taken at some point during the 1960’s, Eastwood shows off his always toned physique. Gary Busey – 1978 Before acting, he was a professional musician, drumming for Leon Russell, Kris Kristofferson, and Willie Nelson. Busey has always been famous for his wild, confused look. Case in point. 12. Goldie Hawn – 1964 Has been dating Kurt Russell since 1983, but the pair has never gotten married. The legendary actress was only 19 years old in this photo, taken before she booked her first major gig. 13. James Dean helps Geraldine Page with her hair – 1955 Dean was the first actor to receive a posthumous Academy Award nomination for Best Actor (East of Eden, 1955). Often perceived as a hardened soul, James Dean actually had an unequivocal soft side. In addition to his interests in literature and poetry, he also attended dance classes to improve his skill set. 14. Peter Dinklage – 1987 Peter’s breakout role came in the 2003 flick, The Station Agent. When this photo emerged of the Game of Thrones star looking fly in high school, we were all thinking the same thing… this guy hasn’t aged a day! 15. Jodie Foster filming Taxi Driver Jodie’s mother wanted her to take parts in “grown up” movies like Taxi Driver because she was afraid Jodie would grow out of acting if she only appeared in children’s movies. Foster once stated that she hated “the idea that everybody thinks if a kid’s going to be an actress it means that she has to play Shirley Temple or someone’s little sister. 16. Bruce Lee’s goatee He is the son of a Cantonese opera star, Lee Hoi-Chuen. After years of training in the art of Wing Chun, Bruce Lee utilized his abilities to produce high-quality kung-fu movies. Sadly, he passed away at age 32. 17. Jean Bugatti with the Bugatti Royale ‘Esders’ Roadster – 1932 Ettore Bugatti had planned to build 25 Bugatti Type 41’s and sell them to royalty. He was destined to become a designer of sorts. His father was an important Italian Art Nouveau furniture and jewelry designer, who encouraged Ettore to purpose technical manufacturing. By 1898, he had constructed a “Bugatti Type 1.” 18. Mohandas Gandhi, Attorney at Law – 1893 In May 1883, at 13 years old, Gandhi was married to 14-year-old Kasturbai Makhanji Kapadia. By the time he was 24, Gandhi was a full fledged attorney. He traveled to South Africa in 1893 to begin work as a legal representative for the Muslim Indian Traders. His 21 years spent in that nation formed the majority of his political views. 19. Chester Macduffee and his 250-kilo diving suit – 1911 This diving suit would be utilized successfully at a depth of 213 feet in 1915. Since it wasn’t watertight, the suit had to be equipped with a pump that removed water from the leg area. 20. Women posing with alligators at an alligator farm – 1930’s In Louisiana, alligator farming is a nearly $70 million industry. As exciting as it looks, crocodile farming does have its dangers. There have been reports from time to time of them escaping these facilities during flooding. In 2013, 15,000 crocs were released into the Limpopo River from flood gates at the Rakwena Crocodile Farm. Opening of the Grand Canyon Diorama at Disneyland – 1958 Walt Disney had a 96-year-old Hopi Indian chief, Chief Nevangnewa, bless the trains on the diorama’s opening day. 1958 was a big year for Disneyland in terms of expansions. In addition to the Grand Canyon diorama, Alice in Wonderland opened in Fantasyland, and the Columbia ship began to travel the Rivers of America. Disney had spent a hefty $23.6 million on the theme park at that time. 22. Sigmund Freud – 1921 In 1938, Freud had to flee his home country of Austria to escape the Nazis. He died in exile in Britain the following year. Despite being awarded the Goethe Prize, for his contributions to psychology and to German literary culture, the Nazis promptly destroyed his books upon seizing control of Germany in 1933. Freud responded rather flippantly, “What progress we are making. In the Middle Ages, they would have burned me. Now, they are content with burning my books.” 23. Babe Ruth duck hunting – 1927 Babe Ruth would frequently head to the west coast during his offseasons. Here, he was photographed duck hunting near San Diego. In 1927, Ruth and Yankees teammate Lou Gehrig toured California, competing in a barnstorming league among local teams. 24. Jackson Pollock producing “Yellow Islands” – 1952 Jackson Pollock was given a memorial retrospective exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City, months after his death in 1956. After purchasing a home in Springs, New York, Pollock converted its barn into a studio. It was there where he would perfect his famous big “drip” technique. One of Pollock’s major influences was Native American sand painting, citing the closeness he feels by being able to walk around the art. 25. The McCartney selfie – early 1960’s Paul’s first instrument was not the guitar or piano, it was a trumpet. McCartney jokingly professes that he invented the selfie. But upon further review, he might actually be right. There are more than a few examples of Paul snapping pics of himself. And why wouldn’t he? The guy is too good looking not to appreciate himself.
