11 Notorious Last Words from Prisoners on Death Row

Death is the most frightening thing on Earth. Despite what anybody says, everybody is afraid of it. It’s your last moment on Earth; the last breath you will ever take. You will cease to exist once you die. As humans, we wouldn’t wish death upon anybody. Well, there are a few exceptions. When you have people who are sadistic enough to the point that they pose a greater danger to society than they do a benefit, then they just don’t deserve the life they are so lucky to have. Criminals who have murdered many people, committed many crimes and created nightmares for other families may, depending upon your perspective, deserve the death penalty. It is said that people are the most honest when they stand in the face of death. After all, what do they have to lose? But in the case of prisoners facing the death penalty, the most popular choice of words have always been “I’m innocent!”, regardless of whether or not they truly are. Seeing that it is too late to plead their innocence, these death row inmates decided to leave the world with some original last words. Here’s what they said: 1. Ted Bundy “I’d like you to give my love to my family and friends.” Theodore Robert Bundy was a famous American serial killer who raped and killed an unknown number of women in the 1970’s. He was executed by electric chair on January 24, 1989. 2. Peter Kürten “Tell me. After my head has been chopped off, will I still be able to hear, at least for a moment, the sound of my own blood gushing from the stump of my neck? That would be a pleasure to end all pleasures.” Peter Kürten was known as the “The Vampire of Dusseldorf,” thought to have killed nearly 60 people in Germany. He beat, raped, and drank the blood of at least one of his victims. He was executed by guillotine on July 2, 1931. 3. Jimmy Glass “I’d rather be fishing.” Famous last words of Jimmy Glass before the electric chair: “I’d rather be fishing.” Well, wouldn’t we all. How can all these murders be so desensitized to death? 4. Jeffrey Dahmer “I don’t care if I live or die. Go ahead and kill me.” Serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer was known as the “Milwaukee Cannibal” after raping and killing 17 men and boys during the 1980’s. His murders involved cannibalism and necrophilia, as well as, preservation of body parts. Dahmer was convicted and sentenced to 16 life in prison terms. However, on November 28, 1994, he was beaten to death by a fellow inmate. 5. Aileen Wuornos “I’d just like to say I’m sailing with the rock, and I’ll be back like Independence Day, with Jesus, June 6th. Like the movie, big mother ship and all. I’ll be back.” Aileen Wuornos killed seven men between the years 1989 and 1990 and tried to convince the jury she was defending herself against rape. She was executed by lethal injection on October 9, 2002. 6. Carl Panzram “Hurry it up, you Hoosier bastard! I could hang a dozen men while you’re screwing around!” Carl Panzram, infamous serial killer, was as impatient as they come waiting to die, saying “Hurry it up, you Hoosier bastard! I could hang a dozen men while you’re screwing around!” Probably not something you should say to your executioner. 7. Gary Gilmore “Let’s do it!” Did you know the murderer Gary Gilmore inspired the Nike quote “Just Do It?” He was the first to be executed after the U.S reinstated the capital punishment in the 70s, saying “Let’s do it!” before he was shot. Well someone went into their execution with the right attitude! 8. George Appel “Well, gentlemen, you are about to see a baked Appel.” George Appel was a man who loved puns. So it’s no surprise his last words were “Well, gentlemen, you are about to see a baked Appel.” How punny. 9. Thomas J Grasso “I did not get my SpaghettiOs. I got spaghetti. I want the press to know this.” Inmate Thomas J Grasso had a bizarrely long list for his last meal, including a can of Spaghetti O’s. His last words were “I did not get my SpaghettiOs, I got spaghetti. I want the press to know this.” Yes, I’m sure the press cared. 10. Peter Manuel “Turn up the radio and I’ll go quietly.” Peter Thomas Anthony Manual was convicted of taken the lives of seven people in Lanarkshire Scotland between 1956 to 1958. Many believe he was responsible for two more missing people but there was never enough evidence to prove he was involved in their disappearances. He was nicknamed “The Beast of Birkenshaw” before he was finally caught. On July 11, 1958, he was taken to the gallows. Harry Allen and William Smith covered his head, strapped his legs and slide the noose around his neck. It only took eight seconds to carry out the deed and only twenty-four seconds passed before Dr. David Anderson certified he was no longer living at 8:35 AM. 11. John Wayne Gacy “Kiss my ass.” Known as the “Killer Clown,” he was a rapist who sexually assaulted and took the lives of at least 33 different teenage boys and men between the years of 1972 to 1978. Lethal injection on May 10th, 1994. He was diagnosed as a psychopath who did not express any remorse for the lives he had taken. He was incarcerated for 14 years before his final day. On May 9, 1994, he was allowed to have a private picnic with his family. His last meal consisted of KFC chicken, a dozen fried shrimp, french fries, fresh strawberries, and a diet Coke. on May 10, 1994 he was confirmed no longer living via lethal injection at 12:58AM and his brain was removed.
