The Cast of Mrs. Doubtfire: Where Are They Now?

Robin Williams in drag equals comedy gold. That could’ve been the elevator pitch for ‘Mrs. Doubtfire,’ in which Williams’ character dresses up like a matronly British nanny so he can see his kids, whom he had lost in a custody battle. The formula obviously worked because ‘Mrs. Doubtfire’ earned more money in 1993 than any movie not named ‘Jurassic Park.’ See what the cast of ‘Mrs. Doubtfire’ is up to these days below. Matthew Lawrence (Chris Hillard) THEN: In addition to playing middle child Chris Hillard, Matthew Lawrence starred in Brotherly Love alongside his brothers, fellow actors Joey Lawrence and Andrew Lawrence. NOW: After his Mrs. Doubtfire and Brotherly Love days, Lawrence continued acting in films including 2002’s The Hot Chick and on television in Boy Meets World, Inside Carly, and, most recently, Girl Meets World. Mara Wilson (Natalie Hillard) THEN: Few child actors have had careers as successful as that of Mara Wilson, who played little Nattie Hillard. Wilson starred in several beloved blockbusters during the ’90s, including Miracle of 34th Street, Matilda, and A Simple Wish. NOW: While Wilson has retired from acting in films, she’s still working in creative fields, performing all over New York City and appearing on podcasts such as Welcome to Night Vale. Now that she’s focused on writing, her memoir, Where Am I Now?, is set to come out in September 2016. Pierce Brosnan (Stu Dunmyer) THEN: While he played Miranda’s haughty new boyfriend Stu Dunmire in Mrs. Doubtfire, it was this Irish actor’s portrayal of the oh-so-suave James Bond two years later in 1995’s Goldeneye that truly skyrocketed his career. And just look at those ’90s jeans! NOW: After playing Bond for a whopping four of the franchise’s films, Brosnan moved on to other roles, including silver fox Julian in 2005’s The Matador and Richard Haig in 2014’s Some Kind of Beautiful. Sally Field (Miranda Hillard) THEN: On top of playing Miranda Hillard, the devoted mother of three kids, in Mrs. Doubtfire, Field appeared in several highly successful ’90s films, including Forrest Gump and Not Without My Daughter. NOW: With a career now spanning a remarkable six decades, Field has kept busy both on television and in film. From 2006 to 2011, she played Nora Walker on ABC’s Brothers & Sisters, and most recently she starred in the 2015 romantic comedy Hello, My Name Is Doris as the title character. Robin Williams (Daniel Hillard/Mrs. Doubtfire) THEN: After working his way up the entertainment ranks throughout the ’70s and ’80s, Williams’ comedy career exploded during the 1990s with blockbuster hits like Hook, Jumanji, Jack, and (of course) Mrs. Doubtfire, playing the title character who’s actually the children’s father dressed up as a Scottish housekeeper. 2013: Robin Williams Tragically, the world lost this beloved actor in August 2014, but his legacy lives on through his incredible work in film, on television, and in the standup world. Lisa Jakub (Lydia Hillard) THEN: Young actress Lisa Jakub, then 14, played Lydia, the family’s eldest child. NOW: After appearing in a few more ’90s films including The Beautician and the Beast (alongside Fran Drescher, one of our faves!) and A Walk on the Moon, Jakub opted to retire from acting in 2001 at 22 years old. Her autobiography, You Look Like That Girl, came out in 2015. Robert Prosky (Jonathan Lundy) Then: Prior to his role as Daniel’s boss Mr. Lundy in ‘Doubtfire,’ Robert Prosky was a critically acclaimed stage actor, garnering over 100 credits to his name in the theater. In 1993, the same year as ‘Doubtfire’ was released, he scored a turn in the football classic ‘Rudy.’ And a year after that, he reunited with his ‘Doubtfire’ co-star Mara Wilson for the remake of ‘Miracle on 34th Street.’ Now: Prosky continued to act up until his death, with roles in films like ‘Dead Man Walking’ and ‘The Scarlet Letter,’ as well as on television as a regular on ‘Veronica’s Closet.’ He passed away in 2008, just several days short of his 78th birthday. Anne Haney (Mrs. Sellner) Then: Anne Haney played uptight social worker Mrs. Sellner in ‘Doubtfire,’ unimpressed with Daniel’s character voices but all about Mrs. Doubtfire’s nightly meringue mask. A few years later she would go on to play Jim Carrey’s secretary Greta in ‘Liar, Liar,’ another of her most well-known roles. Now: Though Haney had amassed dozens of credits to her name prior to and after ‘Doubtfire,’ her role as Mrs. Sellner remained one of her most famous and beloved. Sadly, Haney passed away in 2001 due to heart failure. She was 67. Harvey Fierstein, Frank Then: That was Harvey Fierstein as Daniel's makeup artist brother Uncle Frank. One of the first openly gay actors, Fierstein wrote and originated the lead role in the play 'Torch Song Trilogy' and starred in its cinematic version. Now: Fierstein co-wrote the Broadway musical 'Newsies' and collaborated with Cyndi Lauper on the Tony award-winning 'Kinky Boots.'
