The Simple Things That Kept Us Entertained That Today’s Kids Wouldn’t Understand

When we were younger, our imaginations were vast. We believed everything. If our parents told us they were actually from Mars, we would definitely believe it. we believed in the tooth fairy, Santa Clause and even the Easter Bunny. We played with toys with which we made up our scenarios and played out several adventures with our toys. Sometimes, though, we didn’t have toys to play with at the given time and we were forced to “make due” with what we had to work with; something most millennials seem to not know how to do these days. We would take every day objects and make them into something else. Our imaginations as kids allowed these objects to be anything. Do you remember using these everyday objects as toys?

Wheel Barrows

Whether these barrels were small or large or just the right size, once upon a time wheel barrows were considered to be just as much a children’s toy as it was a work tool. Children pushed each other in them, or raced with loads of cargo in the barrow, trying not to drop anything. The common perception back in that day was that “a spill here or there probably wouldn’t hurt anyone too badly!”

Soap Bubbles

Do you remember getting to play with the bubbles in the sink after Mom was done with the dishes? Sometimes a mixture of work and playtime, washing up was always a fun part of the day. The concept of using bubbles during playtime was derived from this old practice of letting the kids play in the bubbly sink.

Garden Tools

Ultra Swank

Digging in the dirt was one of our favorite things to do as kids; finding bugs and whatever else the dirty ground had to offer. We were often given the same tools adults would use in the garden and we would have a field day with it. We would host our own archaeological digs or we would have wars with the tools given to us. Sometimes we were put to work properly in the garden, but we still had lots and lots of fun.
