  • 1961 – Roy Orbison went to No.1 on the US chart with ‘Running Scared’, it made No.9 in the UK. The B-side ‘Love Hurts’ also picked up significant airplay, making Orbison’s recording the first version to be a hit.
  • 1964 – The Rolling Stones played their first-ever live date in the US when they appeared at the Swing Auditorium, San Bernardino, California.
  • 1964 – David Jones and The King Bees had their first record, “Liza Jane”, released. David Jones later became known as David Bowie.
  • 1965 – “I Can’t Help Myself” reigned supreme on the R&B chart for the Four Tops.
  • 1965 – The soundtrack album to ‘The Sound of Music’ started a 10-week run at No.1 on the UK chart.
  • 1966 – At The Marquee Club London ‘The Bowie Showboat’, a lunchtime performance from David Bowie ‘three hours of music and mime’, plus a Top Ten disco.
  • 1971 – James Taylor’s “You’ve Got A Friend” was released.
