13 Commonly Misheard Song Lyrics That Are Just So, So Wrong

We have all been guilty of singing the wrong lyrics to songs and I will admit, I am still guilty. I don’t think there is one song that I don’t flub the lyrics on. Whether it’s part of the chorus or just a word that get’s miffed, I definitely have the wrong lyrics embedded into my head and like a bad habit, it’s hard to break. So while I have now learned the correct lyrics of songs, I still continue to mis sing them.

Here are some of the lyrics (Some of which I am 100% guilty of singing wrong) that have been submitted by you, our staging.doyouremember.com fans.

1. “Money for Nothing” by Dire Straits

Society Of Rock

…is a single by British rock band Dire Straits, taken from their 1985 studio album Brothers in Arms. The song’s lyrics, considered controversial at the time of the song’s release, are written from the point of view of a working-class man watching music videos and commenting on what he sees. The song featured a guest appearance by Sting singing background vocals, providing both the signature falsetto introduction and backing chorus of, “I want my MTV.” The groundbreaking video was the first to be aired on MTV Europe when the network launched on 1 August 1987.

“Money For Nothing”

Maybe get a blister on your little finger
Maybe get a blister on your thumb

We gotta install microwave ovens
Custom kitchen deliveries
We gotta move these refrigerators
We gotta move these color TV’s

See the little faggot with the earring and the makeup
Yeah buddy that’s his own hair
That little faggot got his own jet airplane
That little faggot he’s a millionaire

We gotta install microwave ovens
Custom kitchens deliveries
We gotta move these refrigerators
We gotta move these color TV’s

I shoulda learned to play the guitar
I shoulda learned to play them drums
Look at that mama, she got it stickin’ in the camera
Man we could have some fun
And he’s up there, what’s that? Hawaiian noises?
Bangin’ on the bongoes like a chimpanzee
That ain’t workin’ that’s the way you do it
Get your money for nothin’ get your chicks for free

We gotta install microwave ovens
Custom kitchen deliveries
We gotta move these refrigerators
We gotta move these colour TV’s, Lord

Now that ain’t workin’ that’s the way you do it
You play the guitar on the MTV
That ain’t workin’ that’s the way you do it
Money for nothin’ and your chicks for free
Money for nothin’ and chicks for free

Misheard Lyrics: ‘Money for nothin’ and chips for free’.
Correct Lyrics: ‘Money for nothin’ and your chicks for free’

2. “DRIFT AWAY” by Dobie Gray

Society Of Rock

… is a song written by Mentor Williams and originally recorded by John Henry Kurtz on his 1972 album Reunion. In 1973 the song became Dobie Gray’s biggest hit, peaking at number five on the Billboard Hot 100 and certified gold by the RIAA. A new version by Uncle Kracker, with Gray, became a major hit in 2003.

“Drift Away”

Day after day I’m more confused
Yet I look for the light through the pouring rain
You know that’s a game that I hate to lose
And I’m feelin’ the strain
Ain’t it a shame

Oh, give me the beat boys and free my soul
I wanna get lost in your rock and roll and drift away
Oh, give me the beat boys and free my soul
I wanna get lost in your rock and roll and drift away

Beginning to think that I’m wastin’ time
I don’t understand the things I do
The world outside looks so unkind
And I’m countin’ on you
To carry me through

Oh, give me the beat boys and free my soul
I wanna get lost in your rock and roll and drift away
Yeah, give me the beat boys and free my soul
I wanna get lost in your rock and roll and drift away

And when my mind is free
You know a melody can move me
And when I’m feelin’ blue
The guitar’s comin’ through to soothe me

Thanks for the joy that you’ve given me
I want you to know I believe in your song
And rhythm and rhyme and harmony
You’ve helped me along
Makin’ me strong

Oh, give me the beat boys and free my soul
I wanna get lost in your rock and roll and drift away
Give me the beat boys and free my soul
I wanna get lost in your rock and roll and drift away

Oh, give me the beat boys and free my soul
I wanna get lost in your rock and roll and drift away
Hey, give me the beat boys and free my soul
I wanna get lost in your rock and roll and drift away

Na na na, won’t you, won’t you take me
Oh, take me
