  • 1960 – Brenda Lee recorded “I’m Sorry”.
  • 1961 – Ahhh, the days when music was fun…”Blue Moon” by the Marcels was #1.
  • 1964 – While the Beatles were changing music forever, Louis Armstrong held on to his style with “Hello, Dolly!” and paved the way on the Easy Listening chart.
  • 1964 – Meet the Beatles! was #1 on the Album chart for the seventh week and Introducing…The Beatles was #2.
  • 1966 – Gary Lewis recorded “Green Grass.”

  • 1992 – Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody” was one of the hottest songs, rising from #81 to #49, 16 years after it first was a smash hit.
  • 1992 –  “Save The Best For Last” by Vanessa Williams was the new #1 on the R&B chart.
  • 1992 – Vanessa Williams also rose to #1 on the AC chart with “Save The Best For Last”.
  • 1999 – French artist Mr. Oizo had the #1 song in the U.K. with “Flat Beat”.

  • 1974 – A streaker ran onto the set of “The Tonight Show starring Johnny Carson.”
  • 1975 – Television series Kolchak – The Night Stalker airs final episode on ABC.
  • 1986 – More than 6,000 radio stations of all format varieties played “We are the World” simultaneously at 10 -15 a.m. EST.
  • 1992 – Television special Newsies! Newsies! See All About It airs.
  • 1999 – The Wonderful World of Disney airs the movie “Balloon Farm.”

“OTHER IMPORTANT EVENTS”

  • 1885 – The Salvation Army was officially organized in the U.S.
  • 1898 – The U.S. Supreme Court ruled that a child born in the U.S. to Chinese immigrants was a U.S. citizen. This meant that they could not be deported under the Chinese Exclusion Act.
  • 1922 – 1st microfilm device introduced
  • 1933 – In Germany, the Nazis ordered a ban on all Jews in businesses, professions and schools.
  • 1964 – Madame Tussauds in London unveiled the wax images of the Beatles, the first pop stars to be honored.
  • 1968 – The U.S. lost its first F-111 aircraft in Vietnam when it vanished while on a combat mission. North Vietnam claimed that they had shot it down.
  • 1975 – Barbra Streisand attends tonight’s Elvis Presley show in Vegas and meets the King backstage to discuss offering him the lead role in her latest film project: a remake of the classic A Star Is Born.
  • 1978 – Disney World is visited by 85,123 guests on this day!
  • 1984 – Mick Fleetwood, whose band, Fleetwood Mac, had the biggest-selling album of all time just seven years earlier, files for bankruptcy.
  • 1987 – The very first Disney Store opens – in the Glendale Galleria in Glendale, California. It is Disney’s first retail store outside of a theme park or resort.
  • 1990 – Jesse Owens received the Congressional Gold Medal from U.S. President George H.W. Bush.
  • 1991 – Conor Clapton, Eric’s four-year-old son was buried in England with Phil Collins and George Harrison attending the funeral. Conor died after falling out of an apartment window in New York City.
  • 1995 – Lyle Lovett and Julia Roberts announced that they were separating. They had been married for 21 months.
  • 1996 – Phil Collins announced he was leaving Genesis for a solo career.
  • 1997 – The Atlanta Braves put Disney’s Wide World of Sports into motion when their exhibition game with the Cincinnati Reds launches competitive play at the brand new sports complex in Florida.
  • 1998 – KISS played the first of five sold-out shows at the Budokan in Tokyo, Japan.
