• 1935 – The American radio show “Your Hit Parade” makes its debut on the airwaves. In the following years, it becomes the jumping point for many of the most successful singers and artists in the music industry.
• 1959 –  Dick Clark protege and teen idol Bobby Rydell makes his first television appearance, naturally enough, on ABC-TV’s American Bandstand.
• 1964 –  The Beatles performed on English TV’s Ready Steady Go, which achieved its highest rating of all-time.
• 1982 – Buckner & Garcia performed “Pac-Man Fever” on American Bandstand.
• 1985 – CBS-TV presented, “The Romance of Betty Boop.”

• 1922 – The US Postmaster General ( Hubert Work ) ordered all homes to get mailboxes or relinquish delivery of mail.
• 1933 – Within one month of taking office President Roosevelt set about pulling America out of the depths of the worst depression in history. He temporarily closed the nation’s banks. He passed emergency legislation aimed at stabilizing financial institutions. Spoke on the nations radio airwaves giving people hope and a much needed pep talk. Signed the Economy Act into law which cut salaries of federal employees including war veterans
• 1948 – 20th Academy Awards – Gentleman’s Agreement wins Best Motion Picture, Academy Award for Best Actress goes to Loretta Young (The Farmer’s Daughter) and Ronald Colman bags the Academy Award for Best Actor (A Double Life).
• 1952 – At the 24th Academy Awards -An American in Paris wins Best Motion Picture, Humphrey Bogart wins Best Actor (for “The African Queen”) and Vivian Leigh bagged the Best Actress Award for her role in “A Streetcar Named Desire”.
• 1964 – Beatle George Harrison escorts Disney teen star Hayley Mills (and her mother Mary Hayley Bell) to a midnight matinee charity benefit showing of the film Charade at the Regal Cinema in Henley-on-Thames.

• 1990 –  Gloria Estefan was seriously injured with broken vertebrae after a tractor crashed into her tour bus on a snow-covered highway in the Poconos near Tobyhanna, Pennsylvania while Gloria was on her way to a concert. The song “Coming Out Of The Dark” was written about the experience.
• 1991 –  Michael Jackson signed a $1 billion record/film deal with Sony Music and Columbia Pictures.
• 1991 –  Eric Clapton’s son Conor, all of four years old, dies after falling from the 53rd story window of his mother’s apartment in New York.
• 1991 – A jury in Los Angeles awards singer Peggy Lee more than 3.8-million dollars in videocassette profits for her singing and songwriting in Disney’s animated classic Lady and the Tramp.
