  • 1958 –  Buddy Holly played his only two shows in the U.K. at the Regal Cinema in Hull, Yorkshire.
  • 1962 –  Bob Dylan released his self-titled debut LP.
  • 1974 –  Jefferson Starship set out on their first tour since they changed their name from Jefferson Airplane, playing at the Auditorium Theatre in Chicago, Illinois.
  • 1975 –  America released their fifth album Hearts.
  • 1975 –  America released the single “Sister Golden Hair“.
  • 1977 – Glen Campbell’s “Southern Nights” rides at #1 on the Billboard country chart
  • 1980 –  Ambrosia released the single “Biggest Part Of Me”.
  • 1988 –  Billy Ocean entered the Top 10 with “Get Outta’ My Dreams, Get Into My Car“.
  • 1994 –  Toni Braxton jumped to #1 on the Album chart with her self-titled release.  The Sign from Ace of Base was second.
  • 1994 – Neal McCoy picks up a #1 single in Billboard with “No Doubt About It”
  • 1996 – The second album of the Beatles’ Anthology series was released in the U.S., featuring the new track “Real Love”.
  • 1999 – Cher had a huge comeback hit with the #1 song “Believe“.

  • 1966 –  Lesley Gore was a guest on the final episode of The Donna Reed Show on ABC-TV.
  • 1971 – Teen idol Bobby Sherman guest stars as songwriter “Bobby Conway” on the “A Knight In Shining Armor” episode of ABC-TV’s The Partridge Family.
  • 1977 – The last episode of “The Mary Tyler Moore Show” aired.
  • 1984 – The TV show “Kate and Allie” premiered.
  • 1999 – Elton John appears on TV’s The Rosie O’Donnell Show, promoting Disney’s new stage musical Aida, for which he has written the music.

“OTHER IMPORTANT EVENTS”

  • 1918 – The U.S. Congress approved Daylight-Saving Time.
  • 1953 – The 25th Academy Awards ceremony was the first Academy Awards ceremony to be televised and the first ceremony to be held in Hollywood and New York City simultaneously.
  • 1957 –  Elvis Presley first viewed the Graceland mansion in Memphis, Tennessee.  He fell in love with it instantly, and agreed to purchase the property. The Presley’s signed the official real estate contract on March 21, and the sale closed on March 26
  • 1968 – Tom T. Hall marries “Truck Drivin’ Son-Of-A-Gun” songwriter Dixie Deen, whom he affectionately calls “Miss Dixie”
  • 1970 –  David Bowie marries model Mary Angela Barnett, his first wife and the eventual subject of the Rolling Stones’ 1974 hit, “Angie,” in Kent, England.
  • 1987 – Televangelist Jim Bakker resigned from the PTL due to a scandal involving Jessica Hahn.
  • 1988 – Michael Jackson begins construction on his 2,800-acre ranch and private amusement park in Santa Barbara, CA, which he will name “Neverland” after a fantasy location in his favorite book, Peter Pan, a place where children never grow up.
  • 1999 – George Jones left the hospital after being severely injured in a car accident on March 6, 1999.
