• 1956 – Folk singers Archer and Gile appear on the ABC-TV series Mickey Mouse Club.  Today is Guest Star Day.
• 1969 – Tom Jones’ UK variety show This Is Tom Jones premieres on ABC after the network pays out over $20 million for the rights.
• 1965 – Walt Disney’s Wonderful World of Color premieres episode 3 of a 3-part mini-series titled “The Adventures of Gallegher.”
• 1980 – AC/DC appear on Top of the Pops, where they perform A Touch Too Much. It would be lead singer Bon Scott’s last appearance with the band.
• 1981 – ABC begins airing the first installment of the mini-series Elvis and Me, based on ex-wife Priscilla Presley’s book of the same name.

“OTHER IMPORTANT EVENTS…”

• 1964 – Thanks to media coverage and a publicity campaign by Capitol Records, thousands of screaming fans greet The Beatles when their plane lands in New York at 1:20 pm. The scenes become iconic images of Beatlemania.
• 1986- Debi Thomas won the senior women’s title at the U.S. Figure Skating Championships on this day and became the first African-American to win a non-novice title. Thomas competed in the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary, winning the bronze and becoming the first African American to win a medal in any Winter Olympic sport.
• 1994 – The 21st Annual American Music Awards were held on this day and Whitney Houston was the big winner of the night, taking home eight awards.
• 1997 – Sarah McLachlan marries her drummer, Ashwin Sood, in Negril, Jamaica.
• 2001 – Die-hard Disney fans begin to line up at 5 p.m. Wednesday, 15 hours before the 8 a.m. Thursday opening of Disney’s California Adventure.
