Tiny Turkeys Are A Hot Commodity This Year For Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is expected to look a lot different this year during the coronavirus pandemic. Many families are not having big get-togethers this year. They may be spending Thanksgiving with only their immediate families or even doing things virtually. This means that you likely won’t have to buy a huge turkey and all of the trimmings. Many are buying small turkeys this year.

Turkey farms and grocery stores are noticing the difference already. Reportedly, smaller turkeys are being requested and sold out more as the days inch closer to November. In the past few decades, most people request large turkeys and those are the ones that sell out. This is because you needed enough to feed a large family!

Don Peterson, owner of Peterson’s Turkey Farm said, “We’ve run into people wanting more smaller turkeys than the bigger ones. We used to sell – a big part of our turkeys was 16, 17, 18-pound hens. And this year we’re practically out of 10-pound ones right now.”
