When Elvis Presley died in 1977, he left his Graceland home to his daughter Lisa Marie. She has kept the home in good condition. While the home has been a museum for fans since 1982, Lisa Marie has said she still considers it her family home. There are parts of the home that are not open to visitors so that Lisa Marie and her family can stay there whenever they want.
Lisa Marie has said that she still has family in Memphis, so she goes and visits whenever she can. When she’s in town, she visits Graceland and the family will have dinner there. While Lisa Marie admits that she usually visits after visiting hours are over, sometimes she will sneak by while people are on a tour.
The family has held Thanksgiving dinners at Graceland before as well. Occasionally, Lisa Marie will stay overnight in the area that is off-limits to visitors. It was her wish to have the upstairs maintained just as Elvis left it. In fact, the record player still holds the last record he was listening to before he died. There is also still a styrofoam cup sitting there that he was using.

Graceland archivist Angie Marchese has said, “One of Lisa’s favourite things to do here is to actually share with her kids and her friends her memories of Graceland. And do things that Elvis and her used to do like ride golf carts or see the horses and things like that. But they do come quite often. This is still her home.”
It is so nice to hear about the memories Lisa Marie has of Graceland and that she still visits often. Have you ever been to Graceland?
