Bryan Palmer came outside to do some lawn-mowing on a normal Monday afternoon. However, everything changed when his defibrillator went off during his work. “I thought I hit something in the yard electrical at first because it hurts, trust me. It’s not a pleasant feeling when that thing goes off,” Palmer recalls to news outlets.
His daughter, Kayla Palmer, could hear him screaming from inside. She saw her dad clutching his chest so she, of course, went to call 911 immediately. Paramedics soon arrived on the scene along with four firefighters. “Sitting in the chair [before heading to the hospital], I made the comment to them, ‘OK, who’s gonna finish mowing my yard?’ And they all laughed and got a chuckle out of it,” Palmer jokes.
Firefighters continue mowing Bryan’s lawn to help complete the job
Kayla says that after his dad left to go to the hospital for treatment, the firefighters went “above and beyond to help.” “You don’t see it often, and you don’t see it in your own backyard,” she says.

Lt. Justin Torres, Jacob Pope, Chris Mank, and Brian Ruden all grabbed the lawnmower and finished what Palmer started. When Kayla was able to finally go to the hospital to visit her dad, she showed him a video of the firefighters completing his work. “Nicest thing I’ve ever seen,” Palmer recalls upon seeing the video.
“You don’t see the neighbors helping neighbors like you used to,” Kayla adds. “It was the sweetest thing possible.”
Palmer says that he intends to pay it forward to the firefighters for going above and beyond to take care of him and his work!
