‘Imus In The Morning’ Host Don Imus Dies At 79

  • He is best known for his controversial radio show ‘Imus in the Morning.’
  • He was 79 years old. 

 

The radio personality Don Imus passed away this morning, December 27, 2019, at age 79. He was living in Texas. He passed away at the Baylor Scott and White Medical Center after being hospitalized on Christmas Eve. The cause of death has not yet been revealed.

He is best known for his controversial radio show “Imus in the Morning.” The show aired on various broadcasting networks until 2018.

He was born John Donald Imus Jr. on July 23, 1940, in Riverside, California. However, he was raised in Prescott, Arizona on a ranch. He dropped out of high school and enrolled in the Marines. After, he worked many odd jobs and later found his love for being on the radio. In addition, his first deejay job was at KUTY, a station in Palmdale.

While much of his comedy was controversial, he was also an active philanthropist. Don and his wife Deirdre founded the Imus Ranch, which helps children with cancer.

The Imus family said in a statement: “Don loved and adored Deirdre, who unconditionally loved him back, loved spending his time watching Wyatt become a highly-skilled, champion rodeo rider and calf roper, and loved and supported Zachary, who first met the Imus family at age 10 when he participated in the Imus Ranch program for kids with cancer, having battled and overcome leukemia, eventually becoming a member of the Imus family and Don and Deirdre’s second son.”

He is survived by his wife Deirdre Coleman and his six children. The family is holding a private service but asks for donations to be made to the Imus Ranch Foundation in lieu of flowers. In conclusion, listen to the final minutes of his popular show “Imus in the Morning” below:
